Red Sox 7, Yankees 4: Boston scored three runs in the 8th to tie the game, and Babe Ruth hit a three-run circuit clout in the bottom of the 9th to give the Sox an exciting win at Fenway. The Yanks were cruising 4-1 into the 8th behind George Mogridge and three hits from Del Pratt, but that all changed in the 8th. After Mogridge retired the first batter, he surrendered consecutive two-base hits to Ruth, Stuffy McInnis and Ossie Vitt and then chucked a wild pitch before Frank Baker's fielding miscue allowed the tying run to score. In the 9th, Harry Hooper led off with a single and moved to second on Strunk's base hit with one away. This sent Mogridge to the bench in favor of Bob McGraw, but the reliever's afternoon was very short-lived as Ruth greeted him with his fourth home run of the season to end the game. [box]

1919 AL - Games of Wednesday, 30 April
Browns 12, Indians 3: Joe Gedeon was a one-man wrecking crew at Sportsman's Park this afternoon, clubbing two doubles and two triples, and knocking in four runners, to lead the Browns to a resounding win over the struggling Indians. Once again, Cleveland starting pitching couldn't escape the early innings unscathed, as St. Louis scored five times in the first two stanzas and led 6-0 before CLE could muster a whimper with a pair in the 5th. But Gedeon doubled in both the 6th and 7th and the Browns scored six more times against the Cleveland mound reserves to put the home crowd in joyful spirits. Jack Tobin had three hits and George Sisler also had four RBI as part of the Browns' seventeen-hit attack. [box]
1919 AL - Games of Tuesday, 29 April
The schedule gets underway in earnest, as today marks the first day on which all eight clubs are in action . . .
White Sox 8, Tigers 1: Eddie Cicotte scattered six hits and one walk against a tough Detroit lineup, and his teammates belted fourteen hits on their way to an easy win in Detroit. Joe Jackson and Chick Gandil had three hits each. [box]
1919 AL - Games of Monday, April 28
Yankees 7, Athletics 3: Duffy Lewis broke open a tie game with a three-run 6th-inning home run, and the Yanks added three more in the 7th to run clear of the A's at the Polo Grounds. Up to that point, Jack Quinn and Scott Perry had been pitching effectively but it all came unglued for Perry after he had retired the first two men in the 6th; Frank Baker singled, as did Ping Bodie, and that brought the NY right-fielder to the plate to knock the ball into the crowd for the first time this season. This appeared to unsettle Perry, as he then allowed four hits and a walk the following inning before righting himself to finish the contest. Quinn allowed only five hits, with the only runner reaching second base before a little late trouble in the 9th coming on Braggo Roth's 4th-inning homer. Roger Peckinpaugh contributed three hits for the Gothams. [box]
1919 AL - Games of Sunday, 27 April
Red Sox 2, Nationals 1: Babe Ruth's first home run of the year provided a late-game turnabout, and all of the runs that Sad Sam Jones needed to polish off a four-hit gem against the Washingtons at Griffith Stadium. The home side had taken the lead in the 4th when Sam Rice led off with a single, stole second, and scored on Val Picinich's deep fly ball to center field. The game stayed in that state until the top of the 8th when Jim Shaw plunked Jack Barry to start the stanza and, one out later, Ruth (.500/.600/1.125 in the season's first three games) drove the ball into the right-field stands. Jones retired the final thirteen Nats in order, while Shaw was a tough-luck complete-game loser. [box]
1919 AL - Games of Saturday, 26 April
Tigers 6, Indians 4: The Tigers withstood a late Indians rally to hang onto a home victory. Detroit led 5-1 before Cleveland scored three times in the 8th to raise some concern in the gathering at Navin Field, but Ty Cobb (3-for-5, RBI, SB) singled home an insurance run in the bottom half and George Cunningham held on to close it out. Ira Flagstead hit a solo home run for the Tigers. [box]
1919 AL- Games of Friday, 25 April
Browns 5, White Sox 4: Wally Gerber just beat the throw home on a bang-bang play in the bottom of the 9th as the Browns edged the ChiSox in front of the home fans. St. Louis loaded the bases with one out and, with Dickie Kerr on in relief, Joe Gedeon tapped one to the left of the mound which Kerr could only stab and fling toward home after Gerber (who reached base all four times to the plate) had slid past the tag of Ray Schalk. Bert Gallia went the distance for the Browns, spreading out seven hits and five walks. [box]
1919 AL - Games of Thursday, 24 April
Athletics 8, Nationals 4: Braggo Roth belted two triples and a double to key a Philadelphia attack that jumped on Harry Harper for four runs in the 1st and then tacked on late after the Nationals had rallied to within a run. The A's had four triples in total, while Washington turned four double plays. Cy Perkins drew three bases on balls, and Hal Janvrin reached base three times. [box]
