1919 AL - Games of Monday, 12 May

White Sox 8, Browns 7Joe Jackson's double in the bottom of the 9th capped off a furious late-inning Chicago comeback and sent Eddie Collins scampering home with the winning run in an 8-7 White Sox win. St. Louis had built up a formidable advantage in the early innings, thanks in large part to a pair of two-run triples by Baby Doll Jacobson in consecutive innings, and their lead reached 7-1 before Chicago managed to reach Bert Gallia for two runs in 5th. Two more scored in the 7th on productive outs from Buck Weaver and Collins, and things really got interesting when Swede Risberg and PH Fred McMullin drove in runs in the 8th to tie the contest at 7. Detroit put two men aboard against Red Faber with one away in the top of the 9th, but left them stranded, and it would end quickly in the bottom half. Buck Weaver led off with a base hit, but was caught trying to steal second. Collins then singled, and successfully swiped the extra bag before Jackson drove one to the fence in right-center for his second two-bagger of the game and a walk-off win. Hap Felsch had a double to extend his hitting streak to fifteen games, and George Sisler had three hits in a losing cause. [box]

Tigers 7, Indians 2Harry Heilmann had three hits, and Bernie Boland allowed only one unearned run over nine innings as Detroit won handily against Cleveland. Two runs in each of the 5th and 6th innings, that latter of which was started by Heilmann's single, broke open a 1-1 game and put the Tigers ahead to stay. Heilmann singled to lead off the 8th as well, and that started another two-run rally that put the game away. Boland had three hits himself, including a double and a triple. [box]
