Nationals 4, White Sox 1: Walter Johnson pitched a five-hitter with no walks, and Washington made the most of its own four hits to slip past Chicago at Comiskey Park. The Sox scored in the their first turn when Nemo Leibold singled. stole second and scored on Joe Jackson's two-out single. Shoddy glove work erased this lead in the second when two Eddie Collins errors set the table for Johnson to rope a two-run triple and, in both the 5th and the 7th, a pair of Bill James (2-2) walks set up two-out RBI singles by Sam Rice as Washington widened the gap. Johnson (22-6) was overpowering on the hill, setting down twenty-one of the last twenty-two White Sox to win his twenty-second game of the season. [box]

Athletics 7, Tigers 6: The tail-enders from Philadelphia stunned Detroit with four runs in the final two innings to surprise and delight the home crowd at Shibe Park with a come-from-behind walk-off win. The two clubs busted out early with a combined seven runs in the 3rd inning, but matters turned quiet from there until the 7th, when Chick Galloway's fielding error at shortstop opened the door for a two-run single by Ralph Young that gave the Tigers a three-run lead. The A's got three hits and a run on Fred Thomas' homer in the 8th, and a single and triple to start the 9th sent Dutch Leonard packing in favor of George Cunningham (1-2). The 25-year-old Minnesotan was not quite up to the task, as he retired the first two Athletics he faced, but Joe Dugan then tagged a game-tying single and, after a walk, Cy Perkins doubled Joe home for the win.
