Indians 3, Red Sox 2: Stan Coveleski pitched seven strong innings, and delivered the key base hit as Cleveland edged Boston at Fenway Park. The home team led 1-0 when Coveleski (14-15) stepped to the plate with two on and two out in the 4th, and grounded a two-run single off of Sam Jones (11-16) that gave the Indians the lead. Coveleski held Boston to three hits over the next four innings, and then yielded to Tony Faeth for two scoreless innings that sealed the win. Harry Hooper reached base three times for the Sox while Joe Harris and Bill Wambsganss had two hits each for the visitors. [box]

White Sox 7, Athletics 2: Buck Weaver and Ray Schalk rapped three hits apiece, and Roy Wilkinson tossed none solid innings to lead the League leaders to a comfortable win in Philadelphia. Chicago eliminated most of the suspense very early as they scored five times off of James York (0-1) in the 1st inning; Weaver singled in the second run, while Schalk's base hit plated the last. Wilkinson scattered nine hits and struck out four As, with Charlie High (3-for-4, double, RBI) the only player able to consistently solve his slants. [box]
Tigers 9, Nationals 6: Detroit recovered from a late collapse to score three times in the final two innings and put away Washington. The Tigers gave had leads of 5-0 and 6-3 before the Nats rallied to tie in the 7th behind Joe Leonard's three-run home run. But Harry Heilmann tripled and scored on a wild pitch in the 8th, and Eddie Ainsmith tripled home a run and scored on Ty Cobb's single in the 9th to put a period on the game. Cobb had three hits in the game, as did Patsy Gharrity for Washington, and Leonard knocked in four runs for the losers. [box]
