22 October 2023: Perhaps the goals have started to flow, after the big victory in Genoa before the break, but the Juventus defense will provide a stiff test in front of the home crowd at the San Siro today . . . .
Milan (4-3-3): Maignan; Tomori, Thiaw, Calabria (Kjaer 46), Florenzi (Kalulu 67); Musah (Pobega 46), Adli, Reijnders; Pulisic, Leao (Krunic 80), Giroud (Jovic 67)
Juventus (3-5-2): Szczesny; Bremer, Rugani (Illing, Jr. 88), Gatti; Locatelli (Yildiz 88), Weah, McKennie, Rabiot, Kostic; Kean (Vlahovic 78), Milik
The home side wasted little time taking advantage of the pre-match hype energy to get on top of the game; on their first attacking possession of the day Pulisic's shot was stuffed off the boot by Gatti, but Leao jumped quickly on the rebound and slotted it home to put Milan in front. Juventus were immediately put on the back foot, and Milan continued to press them. The rossoneri won a corner in the 10th minute, Pulisic leapt to side-foot home Adli's set kick, and the Giuseppe Meazza erupted. The visitors never found any purchase after this initial shock, being out-possessed, out-passed, and out-shot the entire way. A late goal from Rabiot from McKennie's cross raised a bit of concern, but Juventus simply didn't have enough control or resolve to find another. Adli is again a two-way force in the midfield, with eight passes at a 100% success rate and five pass disruptions. [scoresheet]
This Milan side are starting to look a lot like one that can get up for the big matches, and fall down for the less-big ones . . .
Men of the Match:
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Christian Pulisic (Milan)
⭐️⭐️ Rafael Leao (Milan)
⭐️ Yacine Adli (Milan)
