26 August 2023: Season debut at the San Siro, as Torino come calling at the Giuseppe Meazza. No changes for Milan (1-0-0) after the rousing comeback win in Bologna . . .
Milan (4-3-3): Maignan; Calabria, Thiaw, Tomori, Hernandez; Loftus-Cheek, Krunic, Reijnders; Pulisic, Giroud, Leao
Torino (3-4-3): Milinkovic-Saric; Buongiorno, Schuurs, Rodriguez; Vojvoda, Ricci, Bellanova, Ilic; Vlasic, Radonjic, Sanabria
A somewhat desultory first half seemed to play right into Torino's hands, as the rossoneri could barely manage a possession advantage and generated nothing in the way of scoring chances while i granata were happy to join in with passing the ball aimlessly around the middle of the pitch. After a stern halftime talk Milan began to assert itself in the second forty-five minutes, however, and struck gold midway into the half. Christian Pulisic's corner skipped free in the box off a glancing head and Rafael Leao was there to pounce on the ball and poke it past a scrambling keeper and into the net. The goal seemed to unlock the Milan attack a bit, and shots began to come although accuracy was still an issue. After a number of chances sent wide or high, Davide Calabria drilled one home from the edge of the box with only six minutes remaining to seal the three points for the home side, despite managing to only put two shots on the frame. The finishing will have to improve as the competition stiffens . . . [scoresheet]
